The blast furnace, of which this power plant was once a part, had already been idle since 2008. However, the news of its definitive closure only came in 2012. Activity at this site began back in 1836. As is often the case in the steel industry, the factory experienced numerous mergers and acquisitions over the years, until it eventually came under Italian ownership in 2001.

In 2008, this Italian group ceased the production of primary steel. Efforts were made to find a buyer, but none were successful. In 2012, the curtain finally fell on the factory. In the old power plant, anything still of use was salvaged, but judging by the thick layer of dust covering everything, very little has been moved since.
