The Cokerie
Gas injectors
Beneath the oven supports are the gas injectors. These injectors are part of the coppee inversion system. The system operates with pairs of flue gas channels, each allowing a mixture of gas and air to enter. This mixture burns, producing hot vapors reaching approximately 1300 degrees Celsius.

Light Oil Remover
From above, the forgotten giants reveal their true scale. With our drones, we soared over the imposing Cokerie de Marchienne and the haunting Blue Powerplant two iconic remnants of a bygone industrial era. Once alive with fire and energy, they now lie silent, overtaken by time and nature.

Gas Extraction
The central element of gas extraction in this factory is this type of pump system. These extractors are columns that perform the primary treatment of gas, Removing oils and other impurities through centrifugal force. The cleaned gas is sent back to the gas holder, ensuring a continuous supply for further use.

Cooling Tower
The central element of cooling in this factory is this type of tower. Often, only one very large one is seen (as is the case in Marchienne and similar plants). This cooling tower is essential for regulating temperatures in the coke production process. It dissipates excess heat generated by quinching, the plant would experience overheating, equipment damage, and inefficiencies in gas separation.

Water Tower & Coal Silo
The cokery has his own water tower and a coal silo to keep the coal dry!

Once alive with fire and energy, they now lie silent, overtaken by time and nature. The tanks store separated oils and other extracted residues are collected and eather processed or discarded. While gas purification can be achieved through other means, centrifugal extraction remains one of the most effective methods.
