HFB | Black & White

Some photos are really bad with the colors, but that's why I was able to find this creative way so that it doesn't stand out!

Old HFB.

One of my first visits to the site, with the abandoned torpedo train!

A torpedo steel train (or torpedo ladle car) is a specialized, heavily insulated railcar designed to transport molten pig iron at temperatures exceeding 1.350°C from blast furnaces to steelmaking plants. These torpedo-shaped vessels maintain the metal's liquid state for up to 30 hours, reducing heat loss, preventing solidification during transport, and facilitating efficient, safe, and large-scale, often unmanned, handling of molten metal.

Torpedo train demolished in 2023.

The diesel emergency power plant.

Whenever the power went out, it had to be backed up because a blast furnace uses a huge amount of electricity. They had their own power plant, but this wasn't enough when the power went out on the site.

HFB Local Salle Pompes

HFB Ore Halls & Slag Trains

These halls once served blast furnaces 3 and 4 and had many roles over time, from power plant and machine halls to ore storage, until their demolition in 2024.
The slag trains carried molten slag for cooling and processing, while the ore halls screened and sorted coke before it reached the furnace.

All that industry... now just silence.
