HFB | Injection Plant

The injection station plays a crucial role in the operation of the blast furnace. Here, fuels such as pulverized coal or other injectants are prepared and transported toward the furnace. From the outside, the installation shows a complex network of pipes, pumps, and control systems that regulate pressure, flow, and safety. These systems ensure a constant and controlled fuel supply to the lower part of the furnace.

Injection Boilers

Inside the injection central, the boilers are responsible for heating and conditioning the injectants before they are sent to the blast furnace. Temperature control is essential to keep the material stable and suitable for injection. These boilers were designed to operate continuously under high load, making them a key element in maintaining an efficient and stable furnace process.

From halfway up the installation, the scale of the blast furnace becomes clear. The injection central works in close connection with surrounding systems that support the furnace operation. These include air supply lines, gas ducts, and structural platforms used for maintenance. This level shows how the injection system is just one part of a much larger industrial ecosystem.

The "Balconies"

Known in the urbex scene as the “balconies,” these platforms sit high on the injection central, almost at roof level. Originally, they were used for inspection, maintenance, and monitoring of the installation. Due to their sheltered position and height, they also offered a unique place to stay overnight during explorations, with direct views over the blast furnace complex.

The Roof

The roof of the injection central provides a clear overview of how pipes, ducts, and structural elements come together. From here, it becomes obvious how the injection lines are routed toward the blast furnace. This elevated position highlights the engineering behind the system, where space, safety, and efficiency had to be carefully balanced.

Seen from the injection central, the blast furnace dominates the landscape. This perspective shows the physical proximity between the fuel injection system and the furnace itself. The injected materials enter the furnace at the lower zones, where they support the smelting process by providing additional heat and reducing agents, improving overall efficiency and output.
