Oradour Sur Glane

Oradour-sur-Glane is a commune and village in France. The village was destroyed on 10 June 1944 in the massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane: troops of the German 2nd Waffen SS Panzer Division raided the village in retaliation, drove the men into granaries and shot them, drove the women and children into the imposing church where there was a box of explosives, and when they went out and tried to escape the survivors were shot, and then the rest of the village too. 642 people were killed in three hours and the village was destroyed.

It was the largest Nazi massacre of civilians in France, believed to be the largest in Western Europe, and became the symbol of Nazi barbarism for the French.
